The very popular art-form, otherwise known as Elei, is an adaptation of the ancient Samoan tradition of decorating Siapo (tapa cloth). Using traditional designs depicting the natural environment, the Siapo is carefully hand painted with natural dyes on carved wooden panels.
Pacific Jewell preserves this tradition with a modern approach to create beautifully hand-made prints for bespoke fabrics, clothing, bedspreads, lavalava (also known as sarong), tablecloths, cushion covers, scarves and more.
Using its own unique designs, all the prints are expertly hand blocked by Pacific Jewell’s team of talented young artists on site. Its tried combination of using quality paint to create bold and vibrant colours on fabrics, plus its commitment to excellent workmanship and quality control, makes Pacific Jewell’s hand-made Elei prints highly sought after.
